Who Can Access a Skills Bootcamp?

Our London Skills Bootcamps are available to eligible London residents.

You must:

  • Be 19 years old or over
  • Live in London
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Meet the relevant Skills Bootcamp funding requirements

Depending on the programme and your circumstances, Skills Bootcamps can be available if you are:

Heating Skills Bootcamp

Move into the Future of Low-Carbon Heating

The heating industry is changing, creating demand for qualified engineers who understand modern renewable and low-carbon heating technologies.

Our Heating Skills Bootcamp is designed for existing plumbers and heating engineers who want to develop their skills and gain recognised qualifications in areas including heat pumps and low-temperature heating systems.

Qualifications Included

Successful learners will complete training covering:

  • Level 3 Air Source Heat Pump Installation
  • Level 3 Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems
  • Unvented Hot Water Systems (G3)
  • Water Regulations
  • Energy Efficiency

Course Duration

Flexible study options taking up to 16 weeks, part-time or full-time.

The Heating Skills Bootcamp is delivered:

1 day per week for 9 weeks

Training is delivered in person and combines technical knowledge with practical, hands-on learning.

Entry Requirements

This is an upskilling programme rather than an entry-level plumbing course.

Applicants must normally:

  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Plumbing or Gas Engineering

OR

  • Be appropriately Gas Safe registered

Electrical Skills Bootcamp

Develop Your Skills for the Low-Carbon Electrical Industry

The move towards renewable energy, electric vehicles and smarter energy systems is creating new opportunities for qualified electricians.

Hybrid Tec’s Electrical Skills Bootcamp is designed to help existing electricians develop the specialist skills required to work with modern electrical and low-carbon technologies.

Training Includes

The programme includes specialist training in areas such as:

  • Electric Vehicle Charging (EV)
  • Solar PV
  • Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS)
  • 18th Edition / Current Wiring Regulations Amendments

The programme is designed to give electricians additional skills that can be applied to the rapidly growing renewable and low-carbon energy sector.

Course Duration

Flexible study options taking up to 16 weeks, part-time or full-time.

The Electrical Skills Bootcamp is delivered:

1 day per week for 10 weeks

The programme combines classroom-based technical knowledge with practical, hands-on training.

Entry Requirements

Because this is an advanced electrical upskilling programme, applicants will need existing electrical qualifications and experience.

Applicants must normally hold:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
  • And/or the relevant industry competence requirements for the qualifications being undertaken

Our London location provides learners with access to face-to-face technical training and practical learning delivered by experienced industry professionals.


Funding

Individual Learners

Eligible Londoners aged 19+ may be able to access a Skills Bootcamp fully funded, meaning there is no training fee for the learner.

Your eligibility will be checked before your place is confirmed.

Employers Upskilling Existing Staff

Employers can also use Skills Bootcamp funding to develop existing members of their workforce.

The majority of the training cost can be covered through funding, with employers making a co-investment towards the programme.

The level of employer contribution depends on the applicable funding rules and size of the organisation.

Water Regulations

Water Regulations

This covers all aspects of the 1999 Water Regulations including water fittings, system design and installation, prevention of cross contamination, back flow prevention and water for use outside a property.

Unvented Hot Water

Unvented Hot Water

This course will educate plumbing and heating engineers on the installation and safety requirements of unvented hot water systems, gaining an understanding of pipework, testing safety controls, installation requirements, commissioning, and servicing.

Energy Efficiency (Part L)

Energy Efficiency (Part L)

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of Part L of building regulations, including learning surrounding boiler sizing, the importance of SEDBUK ratings, principles of gas condensing boilers, hot water cylinder replacements, controls, and environmental consequences.

Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps

Designed for heating and plumbing engineers, this course will provide the necessary skills for the design, installation, testing, commissioning, handover, servicing and fault-finding of ground and air source heat pump systems in accordance with the latest NOS/QCF criteria and MCS scheme requirements.

Solar Thermal Hot Water

Solar Thermal Hot Water

Our solar thermal hot water courses will equipt plumbing and heating engineers with the appropriate knowledge and skills regarding the design, installation, testing, commissioning, handover, servicing and fault finding of solar thermal hot water systems in accordance with the latest NOS/QCF criteria and MCS scheme requirements.

Underfloor Heating

You will learn to ​install underfloor heating in the most common types of floor construction, integrate the underfloor heating with a suitable domestic hot water cylinder, and understand the design of the underfloor heating system.

This is for electricians who are looking to expand their skillset surrounding electric vehicle charging stations, gaining additional knowledge about individual charging stations and the regulations about the installation.

This qualification provides an understanding of PV systems with a view to applying for Competent Persons, Micro-Generation Scheme and/or Green Deal registration. The is designed in accordance with the latest NOS/QCF criteria and MCS scheme requirements.

Fundamental Requirements of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS)

This qualification covers the installation of AC or DC coupled systems into low-voltage installations, covering the particular requirements of BS 7671, reflecting the guidance provided by the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems.

Who is eligible to apply for our green energy skills bootcamp?

All courses in our bootcamp are available to all adults over the age of 18 who have the right to live and work in the UK, and who have also lived in the UK/EU for the last three years. Candidates can either be employed, self-employed, unemployed or an employer looking to upskill your workforce

What qualifications do I need to have prior to starting this course?

All heating candidates must have at least a Level 2 NVQ in plumbing, gas or heating and vent and electrical candidates must have at least a Level 3 NVQ/Diploma Electrotechnical

Do I have to pay for the course?

If you are self-employed or unemployed, you are eligible for full funding and do not have to pay. If you are employed - your employer will be required to make contribution towards the course fee, with the remainder of your course fee funded by the Department for Education (DfE). If you are an employer with 249 employees or less, you will be required to contribute 10% of the course fee, with the remainder of your course fee funded by the Department for Education (DfE). If you are an employer with 250 employers or more, you will be required to contribute 30% of the course fee, with the remainder of your course fee funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

How long is the course?

The course is nine days which is fully flexible and can be carried out during evenings and weekends to allow all candidates to wrap around work commitments.

Where will the course take place?

The course is available in three locations: Liverpool, Bury and Rochdale. We are now offering an alternative course with 70% remote learning via Microsoft Teams and 30% in-centre practical learning. All candidates can carry out the majority of learning online and will be filtered into the nearest venue for practical learning in either Liverpool, Rochdale or Bury.

What do I need to bring with me?

We will provide everything you need while you are enrolled on the course, with the exception of safety boots when you are taking part in in-person training.

Tea and coffee are available to purchase on site and there are facilities in the local area to purchase snacks and lunches.
